I'd done some drafts of grid bugs early on, but I never had many of the parts in green. Worse, many parts weren't available in green at all. I finally came up with this simplified design that I "mostly had" in my set and just had to order a few pieces to build entirely in green.

The things I like about this design: the scale is good and it is very posable. It matches the proportions of the film very well. My earlier drafts had relied on hinge plates which are a better match to the film design, but they tend to support less weight and are hard to find in green.

What I don't like in this design are some significant differences from the film: the head is supported on the back instead of from the sides, there is no floating square around the "body" and there are no white contact points between the feet and the grid.

I'm out of black tiles at the moment, so I couldn't make a bigger grid. Also, tan would be a better match from the grid color than yellow. I'll try to get the parts for some better photos later. I've played with a larger design that is more accurate to the film but it will require a lot of green. I think this design might be the best compromise.
